The iconic swim that started it all...
Around~Coronado: Iconic Sights, Skylines - and BIG Ships!
This iconic 11.5mi/18.5km, tidal-assisted swim begins at Glorietta Bay, just south of the historic Hotel Del Coronado and directly across from the Navy SEAL training base. Swimmers make their way through Glorietta Bay towards the Coronado Bridge, passing beneath its immense span before entering San Diego Bay. From there, the route passes aircraft carriers, sailboats, and the beautiful downtown San Diego skyline as the increasing ebbing tide helps carry swimmers around the island. After passing Naval Air Station North Island, swimmers head out towards Point Loma and the Cabrillo National Monument on the right as we set a course going around the Zuniga Jetty. As we make the turn around the Jetty and out of the tidal flow, it’s 5 km to the finish, passing the historic “Hotel Del Coronado” , and onto Gator Beach!
